Synopsis:
This
volume contains a collection of speeches and writings by the late
President of Guyana, Dr. Cheddi Jagan, in which he put forward his
ideas for a New Global Human Order where the primacy of human development
is the guiding principle. He was convinced that with a coordinated
international effort, poverty and hunger could be eradicated in
our lifetime.
Dr.
Cheddi Jagan led the struggle of the people of Guyana for Independence
and later for the restoration of democracy. He was democratically
elected to govern in 1953, 1957, 1961 and again in 1992 when he
became Guyana's first freely elected President. Throughout his life
he fought for the poor, marginalized, oppressed and suppressed peoples
of Guyana and the world at large. His proposals for a New Global
Human Order are his legacy to the world.
