Advisory - First Time Passport

1. Guyanese nationals who have never been issued with a Guyanese passport may apply to obtain one through the Embassy in Caracas. The new passport is "machine-readable" and is issued in Georgetown, Guyana. The Embassy no longer issues new passports.

2. In order to apply for a passport you must have in your possession a valid Guyanese birth certificate.

3. Applications must be made on Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in person at the Embassy.

4. For an application to be accepted, the applicant must produce the following:

(a) Original copy of birth certificate.
(b) Three recent passport sized photographs.
(c) Bs. 150 (US$56) as Fees. Passport forms can be downloaded from the following site: http://www.guyana.org/govt/passport_application.pdf

5. Any Guyanese citizen may apply for a passport regardless of age.

6. Application must be made by filling out and signing the application form, submitting the required documents and paying the required fees for which receipts will be issued.

Please Note -- IMPORTANT:

Section 7 of the application form should be completed by the person verifying the declaration. That person should be a Justice of the Peace, Commissioner of Oaths, Minister of religion, Medical or Legal Practitioner, Senior Civil Servant, Senior Police Officer, or any person of similar standing who is personally acquainted with the applicant.

A member of the applicant's immediate family is not acceptable as a guarantor.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

7. Each application will be forwarded to Georgetown for the necessary checks to be made. The passport will be issued by the Passport Office in Guyana and will be sent to the Embassy to be delivered to the applicant.

8. Upon the receipt of the new passport from Georgetown the applicant will be notified by the Embassy to collect his or her passport. The applicant must call personally to collect his or her passport and will be required to pay a further fee of Bs.35 before the passport is delivered.

9. Passports will not be issued to persons with criminal backgrounds.

10. Fees:

New passports (32 pages) - US$56 or 150 bolivars

Renewal of passport - US$30 or 80 bolivars

11. The estimated average waiting time for a passport to be issued will be four to five months from the time of application.

11. Persons desirous of obtaining a passport but who do not have a valid birth certificate may apply to obtain their certificate. To obtain a Birth Certificate it is necessary to fill out an application form giving the following information and pay a fee of twenty-five US Dollars (US$25.00):

VISAS, PASSPORTS, CONSULAR SERVICES - FEES

The Embassy of Guyana wishes to advise all Guyanese citizens in Venezuela of the following:

1. VISAS

Guyanese nationals travelling on Venezuelan passports to Guyana do not require a visa to enter Guyana, provided it is clearly stated in the Venezuelan passport that their place of birth was in the Republic of Guyana.

2. FEES AND REQUIREMENTS

With effect from January 26, 2010, the costs of consular services are as listed below. Please note that fees shown in bolivars are subject to fluctuations in the foreign exchange rates.

(A) (ii) Requirements for an application for an initial or first time passport

(i) Completed application form
(ii) 2 passport photographs
(iii) Original copy of birth certificate
(iv) 150 bolivars
(v) N.B. Six-month waiting period (approximately) from date of submission of application.

(D). IMPORTANT CONSULAR INFORMATION

Whenever a Guyanese citizen is arrested by a Venezuelan law-enforcement authority, it is the duty of such authority to inform the person arrested that he/she is free to seek the assistance of the Embassy. Guyanese citizens who are not given the opportunity to make contact with the Embassy should insist on their right to do so wherever the circumstances require.

Visa Requirements for entry into Guyana

TOURIST:

* 2 completed application forms
* 2 passport size photographs
* valid passport (at least six months validity)
* Evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of the visit.
* Yellow fever vaccine
* Return air ticket
* Bs. 55
* If travelling to take up employment or reside in Guyana, a letter of approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs must be presented

BUSINESS:

* 2 completed application forms.

* Valid passport (at least six months validity)
* Evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of the visit.

PERSONS WHO DO NOT HAVE A GUYANA MISSION IN THEIR COUNTRY

In the case where a foreign national who is required to be in possession of a visa on arrival, and is travelling from a country not listed or where there is no Guyana Mission thus preventing him/ her from acquiring a visa, he/ she can apply to the Ministry of Home Affairs for a visa to be issued on arrival.

Once the approval is given, the applicant will, upon arrival, be required to submit the approval for the visa to be issued at the Port-of-Entry along with one recent passport-size photograph, to facilitate the issuing of the visa. Only single entry visas are issued at the ports-of-entry unless otherwise approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

* Citizens of Colombia, China and Cameroon must contact the Embassy before applying for visas.

NOTES:

* There is no assurance that a visa would be issued and any preparation or plan made for the journey would be done at the applicant's own risk.
* Failure to complete the form properly as well as to provide supporting documents will delay the processing of the application.
* Under normal conditions, applications for visas should be submitted 2 weeks in advance of the proposed date of travel.
* The granting of a visa does not necessarily guarantee entry into Guyana. Entry will be dependent upon satisfying the usual immigration requirements/procedures at the port of entry.
* A visitor who without permission breaches his/her condition of entry while in Guyana may become eligible for deportation.
* Employment could be paid or unpaid, and includes religious occupation.
* Persons wishing to extend their visas may apply at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Georgetown, Guyana

CASOS DONDE NO EXISTE UNA REPRESENTACIÓN DIPLOMÁTICA O CONSULAR EN EL PAÍS DE ORIGEN

En los casos en los cuales una persona de nacionalidad extranjera a quien se requiere tener una visa de entrada, y dicha persona viaja desde un país no listado or donde no hay una representación diplomática o consular Guyanés que emite el visado adecuado, el/ella podrá solicitar del Ministerio de Relaciones Interiores la emisión de una visa al llegar en el puerto de entrada de Guyana.

Una vez recibida la aprobación, el solicitante deberá, al llegar a Guyana, entregar la aprobación para que la visa sea emitida en el puerto de entrada junto con una foto reciente tipo pasaporte, para facilitar la emisión de la visa. Solamente son emitidas visas de una sola entrada en los puertos de entrada a menos que el Ministerio de Relaciones disponga algo diferente.

CIUDADANOS COLOMBIANOS Y CHINOS DEBEN COMUNICARSE CON LA EMBAJADA ANTES DE SOLICITAR LA VISA

NOTAS

* No hay seguridad de que se le otorgue una visa al solicitante y cualquier preparativo o planes de viajar que hiciera, correrían por su cuenta y riesgo.
* La falta de llenar debidamente la planilla de solicitud así como la no inclusion de documentación sustentatoria demorará la tramitación de la solicitud del solicitante.
* Bajo condiciones normales, las solicitudes para visados deberían ser presentadas con dos semanas antes del viaje proyectado.
* El otorgamiento de una . visa no necesariamente garantiza la entrada a Guyana. Dicho ingreso dependerá del cumplimiento satisfactorio de los requerimientos/ procedimientos usuales en el puerto de entrada.
* El visitante que viola sin permiso su condición de entrada mientras permanezca en Guyana estará sujeto a ser deportado.
* Empleo significa remunerado o no remunerado, incluyendo el oficio religioso.
* Las personas que desean prorrogar sus visas pueden hacerlo mediante solicitud dirigida al Ministerio de Relaciones Interiores, Georgetown, Guyana.
